Problem Statement

India produces world-class athletes, yet its overall sports success remains low despite a massive population.

1

Hypothesis

Below are some of the reasons:

1. Lack of support to athletes

1. Lack of support to athletes

Many talented athletes in India are forced to quit sports due to financial constraints, limited access to quality training, and lack of long-term support.

Even after achieving success at certain levels, athletes struggle to sustain their careers because of few opportunities and minimal institutional backing, leading many to abandon sports altogether.

2. Lack of Sport awareness

Sports awareness in India remains limited, with cricket dominating attention while other sports receive little exposure, especially at the school level.

Secondary Research

Secondary Research

  • At the Tokyo Olympics 2020, India delivered a strong performance, but still ranked far behind leading nations in overall medal count.

  • India competed in only 18 of 46 Olympic sports, while countries like the USA and China participated in 30+ sports, giving them more medal opportunities.

The comparison below highlights the gap between population size, sports participation, and medal outcomes across India, the USA, and China.

There have been many articles on India's problems with sports.

Storyboarding

Storyboarding

Why we did Storyboarding?

To visualize real-life scenarios and understand how different users might support athletes in meaningful, emotional moments, beyond just features and screens.

Persona 1 -Sanjay is a software engineer, who is also a huge sports fan.

Scenario - Sanjay helps a young boy living in his building who excelled at tennis but now is unable to continue due to financial difficulties.

Persona 2 - Vivek works as a consultant at a bank and is passionate about following sporting events.

Vivek feels like giving something to Bajrang after his great victory over Daulet Niyazbekov in wrestling match.

Persona 3 - Jaya runs a cake shop and also volunteers at an NGO for underprivileged kids on the weekends.

Book an online session with an athlete for underprivileged kids.

Key Insights from Storyboarding that shaped Design Decisions

Key Insights from Storyboarding that shaped Design Decisions

People are motivated to support athletes through personal connections or emotional wins.

Support can take different forms - funding, encouragement, or knowledge sharing.

Simple, fast actions matter most during high-emotion moments (wins, struggles, inspiration).

Takeaways & Future Scope

Takeaways & Future Scope

Key Takeaways

  • Worked on a problem I deeply care about - supporting athletes beyond performance.

  • Gained end-to-end experience, from research and storytelling to prototyping and impact thinking.

Areas which need improvement:

  • Continue improving visual design skills.

  • Focus more on crafting meaningful micro-interactions.

Future Scope

Below are the some features that be build for future enhancement of the project

  • Athlete Stories: Share journeys of athletes supported through the platform.
